Morton without a win in 15 matches stretching back to March, welcomed Dunfermline to Cappielow Park for what would be Neil Lennon`s side`s last match for three weeks. The Pars were hoping for three points that would take them into the extended international break with a top four place.

Following the home win over Queen`s Park it was an unchanged starting eleven for the visitors. Meanwhile the hosts manager Ian Murray made three changes - Zach Robinson, Kerr Robertson and former Par Iain Wilson coming in for Harry Cochrane, Michael Garrity and Callum Sandilands.

Morton started with an early flourish and caused a scare in fourth minute when Robinson switched the ball wide for Eamonn Brophy. His cross was firmly headed clear but immediately from the left side of the box, Wilson pinged a shot across the Pars goal with the ball grazing the right upright as it went behind.

For the next 20 minutes Dunfermline took the game to Morton winning a fifth minute corner and Dylan Lobban firing a decent seventh minute cross through the box. Next an Andrew Tod cross was defended behind for another corner again taken short. Play was across field through Macleod before Lobban`s cross was headed over the bar.

From a 19th minute free kick given for hand ball Macleod fed Tod on the left to win with a deflection a corner on the right. This turned out to be two corners and when Lobban`s pass to Fraser the delivery was held by goalkeeper Elyh Harrison.

Dunfermline had enjoyed plenty of the play but had not testing the keeper. They might have paid dearly had the home side taken any of three good chances in 25th minute. Aston Oxborough tipped the first on target effort of the afternoon over his crossbar. The first `˜Ton corner saw Tod clear a Cupps header off the goalline the line before the ball was safely in Oxborough`s hands from a Brophy header.

After that brief counter it was back to Harrison`s end with Macleod cross intercepted ahead of Adams by the on-loan Manchester United stopper.

In 36th Cooper turned on the boosters to race down the left to execute a cross for Tod to shoot but his attempts were blocked twice before Macleod blasted the ball over the Morton bar. A couple times the ball reached Adams but he was closed out before he could shoot.

Another Tod effort was deflected wide for a corner on the right but again taken short there was no danger created in from of goal. Four minutes from the break Oxborough and Cleall-Harding denied an O`Halloran break and then a 6th Pars corner was the first launched directly into the Morton goalmouth but Cooper`s cross went straight into hands of Harrison.

It had been a first half of considerable Par possession, they were guilty of maybe taking too many touches and they had tried plenty shots they had not managed any on target.

Playing against his hometown team Cooper was the first to show urgency in the second half. His cross from his first impressive break was cut out before it could reach Tod 15 yards out but his 53rd burst saw him play the ball off Tod before turning on the return and firing wide left from 20 yards out.

The breakthrough that the Fifers were desperately seeking came in 62 minutes. There were groans from travelling support when another corner was taken short but when in led to Fraser teeing up LOBBAN those sounds of dissent turned to cheers of joy. The on-loan Aberdeen player was 27 yards out but his low shot nestled in the bottom right of the Morton net. Dylan`s first goal for Dunfermline made it 0-1

With the boost from taking the lead Dunfermline looked as though they might go on to record a more decisive victory. Tod and Fraser combined to set up Cooper but his shot was blocked. Another short taken corner did not work out before from a Morton corner sub Keith Bray broke on the counterattack. The Lewis man sent the ball up the right fir Lobban to cross, Olyirwoth took the ball down and played it into the path of Bray but a defender took the sting out of the effort and Harrison held with ease.

Morton forced their opponents back in the final ten minutes. They made Oxborough dive low to his left to pull off a magnificent save but we fortunate not to be punished in the fourth minute of added time. Pars subs Oli Shaw and Chris Kane swiftly created a chance for the latter from the right side of the Morton box but the striker`s right footed shot was saved by Harrison.

In the end Lobban`s strike was enough to take the three points back to Fife, points that take them into the play off places for the first time this season.

Neil Lennon felt his side fully deserved the points, and coined it "a great win" adding:-

"It`s a difficult venue, difficult pitch. We played really well, we deserved to win it, and we deserved to win by more. We had total control of the game, and we deserved to win.

"It`s a great goal to win it. So, we`re in a great run, a really good run. That`s three wins out of four, 10 points out of 12, so we`re in a good place. This has always been a tough venue to come and win, so I`m delighted."
