Dunfermline Athletic

Archives | Clyde 1 Dunfermline 2

It was a disappointing day as defender Nurudeen Abdulai picked up a nasty shoulder injury. Two early Dunfermline goals set the match up for a comfortable win, Clyde struck back but the Pars should probably have found the net more often in a match they dominated.

For the second pre-season running Dunfermline returned from warm weather training in Bulgaria to take on a friendly in South Lanarkshire the following day. This time the opponents were Clyde at New Douglas Park, Hamilton.

Neil Lennon gave 18 of his outfield players game time with keeper Billy Terrell playing the whole match. New signings Kian Corbally from Ballymena United and Oli Shaw signed from Hamilton Accies started.

Bully Wee gaffer was Darren Young who spent five years with the Pars between 2003 and 2008, and played in two Scottish Cup Finals while there. Darren`s starting eleven was peppered with trialists but also included two new signings. Lewis Lovering the 26-year-old spent four years with Benburb before a season each at Beith and Troon. The 20-year-old forward Nathan Cannon joined the Bully Wee on loan from Forfar Athletic at the end of February and has since made the move permanent.

Dunfermline got off to a great start with Andrew TOD polishing off a perfect penetrating pass from Corbally low into the far side of the net within 45 seconds. 0-1

It looked like the Fifers were going to race away with the game as Zak RUDDEN converted a Shaw cut back from the left byeline. 2-0 up within ten minutes but that was all that the Dunfermline players could register.

Terrell made a good save from Marley Redfearn in 14 minutes after Gannon had brushed off the challenge of Robbie Fraser. Clyde got their goal just two minutes later. A corner from the right was challenged at the far post and after a couple of touches the chance fell to Scott WILLIAMSON to net from close range. 1-2

Tod had a couple of attempts, the first from a free kick on the left edge of box after foul on Shaw by Howie, the second crashed over the crossbar.

In 37 minutes Nurudeen Abdulai fell awkwardly and immediately looked in pain. After a three minute stoppage during which the Ghanian defender was assisted off, his shoulder possibly dislocated.

Half Time: Clyde 1 Dunfermline 2

Callumn Morrison replaced Oli Shaw before the second half kicked off and Tod was again the first to threaten curling his 54th minute shot wide. At the other Terrell held a rare Clyde shot after Fleming had sent Trialist #7 into the right side of the Pars box.

After an hour Neil Lennon made seven substitutions Keith Bray, Rory Macleod, Jake Sutherland, Josh Cooper, Danny Dobbie, Ewan McLeod, and Lucas Fyfe coming on for their game time.

A Morrison cross picked out Rory Macleod but his effort cleared the bar. Then in 75 minutes a misplaced Clyde pass presented Cooper with possession and his lay off to Sutherland yielded a shot on target that was blocked. Next Macleod teed up Sutherland but this time Clyde`s second Trialist keeper held. Then the pair repeated only for Campbell to block.

Danny Dobbie also got away a shot from an angle on the left that the keeper again held. With eight minutes Zeke Cameron came on for Alasdair Davidson which meant the Pars central defence was Ewan McLeod and Freddie Rowe.

After a scintillating start to the match it turned into a fairly typical pre-season friendly. Dunfermline subs Morrison, Cooper and Rory Macleod injected pace and looked lively but the Clyde defence held out to deny the visitors any more goals.

With Chris Kane injured and John Tod picking up a knock in pre season, the Pars squad looked light but no doubt there will be more players to be signed. New boys Shaw and Corbally looked very useful additions with the latter making himself available consistently in the right place at the right time.
