It was Hot Toddies as two goals from Andy and one from Matty secured an emphatic victory in Lanarkshire. Chris Kane chipped in at the final whistle to make it four.

This Tuesday night fixture came about due re-scheduling because of the international commitments of players on both sides. Airdrieonians were seeking their first win of the league season, three points would take them to just one behind Ross County. Dunfermline arrived at the Albert Bartlett Stadium on the back of a good home win over Raith Rovers and three points that could see them leapfrog their Fife rivals into fifth place.

Jefferson Caceres returned after serving a two game suspension. After eight appearances off the bench this season Matty Todd started. Chris Hamilton retained his place after a true captain`s performance in the derby and Tashan Oakley-Boothe started place of the injured Charlie Gilmour. Barney Stewart was also out injured and Rory Macleod found himself on the subs bench.

Airdrieonians were without Craig Ross, Jamie Barjonas, Cammy Cooper and Sean McGinty, the latter three were on the bench. Into the side came Dylan Macdonald, Scott Constable, Mason Chisholm and former Par Chris Mochrie.

Dunfermline almost got off to the perfect start when Hamilton sent Keith Bray racing down the right wing and his shot on the angle just went wide of the far post. Keeper Billy Terrell had to come out to clear a couple of big balls pumped up the park, Andrew Tod was twice caught offside and referee David Dickinson saw it fit to pull up the Pars for several rather unnecessary fouls.

Shea Kearney did well to deliver a good cross from the right into the Diamonds box but Tod was offside when the 17th minute chance eventually came to him. Oakley-Boothe switched the play to Robbie Fraser on the left and he got in behind the opposition defence to create the cross off that came back out off a defender. The Fifers continued to press and when Caceres was brought down 20 yards out Tod smashed the free kick into the Airdrieonians wall.

The best chance to break the deadlock came in 25th minute with Todd receiving a pass from Fraser, sending Tod wide left and then being in good position to crash in a shot but the effort went well high of target. Todd`s cross earned a 33rd minute corner but when the second ball came in Tod and Caceres were in offside positions. At the other end Constable`s good opportunity was sliced wide for a throw in.
.

Strapp was shown yellow for halting Bray`s run down the right but the free kick, this time low to the near post, was defended. Next a great run down the right by Bray, exchanging the pass with Caceres saw Bray produce the perfect cross for TOD to head home. 0-1

The 39th minute opener was followed by a second just three minutes later. Magnificent play from Tod to squeeze the ball back from the left byeline allowed TOD to flick the ball past Matty Connelly. 0-2

Airdrieonians tactic of pumping the ball forward both high and low had kept the Dunfermline defence exercised. There was concern that Todd`s good chance had been off target but then two goals in three minutes just before the break left the travelling support happy at the interval.

Mason Munn replaced Billy Terrell for the second half and the home side made a triple substitution Sean McGinty, Jamie Barjonas and Cole Williams replacing Aidan Wilson, Scott Constable and Dylan MacDonald. The Diamonds found themselves another goal behind in just the third minute of the half. Keeper Connelly made a pass to his right for Chisholm but TODD nipped in and went for accuracy rather than pace to slot the ball into the far corner of the Airdrie net. Matty`s first goal since December made it 0-3.

Munn made a good save to deny Mochrie before from a corner on the left Jeremiah Chilokoa-Mullen showed neat close skills to set up Nurudeen Abdulai for a shot at goal but unluckily that flew over the bar. Then in 65th minute both sides committed two substitutes, meaning Ewan Otoo and Rory Macleod replaced Robbie Fraser and Keith Bray.
.

Hamilton picked out Tod on the left side of the Diamonds box but the 19 year-old was prevented from getting in a shot for his hat-trick. It was Hamilton who made Connelly save a shot from the edge of the box after Kearney had got deep down the right, Oakley-Boothe and Todd were then responsible for setting up the captain but alas there was not enough on his effort to get past the keeper.

Kane Ritchie-Hosler and Chris Kane were 77th minute subs, Matty Todd and Jefferson Caceres leaving the field with the travelling support rising to their feet. Euan Henderson produced Airdrie`s best shot of the match, his 80th minute effort kept out by the crossbar.
.

Liam McStravick`s chopping down of Tod then reduced the home side to ten men when the referee flashed his red card at the young Irishman. Dunfermline safely saw out the remainder of the game with KANE coming close with his 88th minute header. He followed that up with a great shot from a Tod lay off that Connelly did well to keep out and then notched the Pars fourth from close in in time added on.

Back to back wins for Neil Lennon`s side lifted them to just two points off the play-off spots.
