For this Scottish Cup Third round tie Dunfermline made two changes with David Wotherspoon and Josh Cooper handed starts. Craig Clay was on the bench but striker Chris Kane missed out with a calf injury.

Edinburgh City were unchanged from the team that played Peterhead last time out. Matty Todd kicked the tie off with Dunfermline attacking the goal at the city end on an unusually warm afternoon for this St Andrews Day. The visitors got off to the best of starts when Dapo MEBUDE netted in sixth minute. The goal an elementary finish from a good Josh Cooper delivery from the right after he had latched on to a Tobi Oluwayemi clearance. 0-1

Cooper hit a tenth minute free kick on target but City keeper Mark Weir held comfortably. The home side`s first attempt from Connor Young was deflected off Kieran Ngwenya for the first of two corners from the left that the Pars defended. There was a terrific save from Weir in 14 minutes after Todd broke through the middle and lofted a great effort on target. Five minutes later Cooper`s shot was deflected for corner on the left that Wotherspoon sent over for Kyle Benedictus vat the far post but his tempting knock down was cleared.

Cooper received a pass from Kane Ritchie-Hosler for another opportunity but his effort travelled across goal and out wide left. Young fired a 30 yard free kick at the Fifers goal but his stringing 28th minute attempt was blocked. Next chance was a good one when Mebude met a Todd cut back from the right. The keeper blocked the shot from close range and Cooper sent the follow up chance over the crossbar.

At the other end Tobi Oluwayemi had to save as Sam Jones rifled an effort on-target. In 43 minutes Quinn Mitchell made Tobi save again but at the break there was just the one goal to show for all the efforts.

Half time: Edinburgh City 0 Dunfermline 1

First chance of the second half dropped to Young five minutes in, but his left footed drive went narrowly wide from the edge of the box. Cooper made Weir save a shot from the edge of the Citizens` box . Then in 56 minutes Dunfermline had their keeper to thank for a fine save after Jon Robertson`s cross from the right found Innes Lawson in front of goal but Tobi denied the capital side an equaliser.

Dunfermline were being pushed back and two substitutions were made to try and change the direction of play. Taylor Sutherland first replaced Josh Cooper and then Chris Hamilton took over from Joe Chalmers in midfield. A long ball put Sutherland through in 65th minute and he held up play for Ritchie-Hosler to accept the chance to shoot but his attempt was blocked by Josh Grigor.

A 69th minute Pars corner was defended and there were more shots from Todd and then Wotherspoon before in 73 minutes TODD, fed by Mebude, made a burst through the middle to execute a shot that broke off Lewis McArthur to beat Weir. 0-2

A City corner saw Grigor try an overhead kick at the far post that was not on target. With five minutes remaining Sutherland showed his threat, chasing down a Nwenga cross to rifle an effort on target but Weir pulled off a fantastic save to keep the hosts two down. Edinburgh City competed to the very end and claimed a consolation from the penalty spot in the third minute of added time. Benedictus` challenge on Ouzy See caused referee Duncan Williams to point to the spot and YOUNG made no mistake as he buried the ball in the bottom right despite Oluwayemi diving the right way. 1-2

Ritchie-Hosler tested Weir again before the final whistle but it was Dunfermline who went through, more comfortably than the scoreline reflected, to Monday night`s Fourth Round draw.
