Wednesday, 10th May 2023Congratulations to Kyle Benedictus who picked up this SPFL honour
Congratulations to Kyle Benedictus who has been named the SPFL League One Player of the Year. He paid tribute to his team mates, management and the physios for seeing him through 43 matches this season to claim the league`s most prestigious prize. He has played almost every minute of every game only being subbed (under duress) in the Premier Sports Cup tie at Ross County:-
"In some games it feels like that! Even in the last 10 minutes on Saturday, you probably wouldn`t think it but it was really humid out there. It was quite hard, so the last 15 minutes were a bit tough. At 2-0 up, I thought we were comfortable. I think Alloa had a wee spell in the first half, probably caused us a few problems, but I thought we did enough to win the game.
"Playing 43 out of 45 games, it`s good training from the gaffer and good physiotherapy! I`ll give them a good thank you for that."
Kyle missed out on the `˜Trophy Day` game at home to Clyde following his one match suspension as a consequence of seeing red against Airdrieonians the previous week. In his absence vice captain Chris Hamilton led the side through the Bully Wee`s guard of honour for the league champions:-
"I was delighted to be back in. I spoke about last week, I was disappointed to miss one game last week. I`m delighted for Hammy and his family, he`s a Dunfermline lad and he`s a supporter. I couldn`t be any happier for him.`
Kyle is also in contention for the Professional Footballers Association`s League One Player of theYear. He is one of four players nominated and is up against team mate Matty Todd as well as Ruari Paton of Queen of the South and Airdrieonians strikerCalum Gallagher. That award will be announced on Sunday 14th May.
