Goalkeeper John Arrol established himself in the team very quickly. Although he had been in the senior game for several years, he was still only 23 year old when he signed for Dunfermline.

John began his career at East Stirlingshire in the Second Division where he caught the eye with some outstanding performances. He moved to Dundee in 1965 but even though he became deputy to Ally Donaldson he played many first team games for the Dens Park club including European matches.

John Arrol played two reserve games before making his Dunfermline debut against Partick Thistle on 17th January 1970
