In March 2003, he circumvented transfer regulations by briefly appearing as an amateur at Dunfermline and then played for Ross County, Livingston and Motherwell before returning to East End Park in August 2006.

After making his senior debut for relegation bound Dundee in May 1994, Jim Hamilton emerged as a promising young striker in the First Division, earning Scottish U21 caps and playing in Dundee`s 1995/96 League Cup Final defeat by Aberdeen.

Transferred to Hearts late in 1996, his average of a goal every three games prompted Aberdeen to sign him for £300,000 in March 1999.

He was at his home town club for only a few months before the Dons recouped their money from Dundee United where he spent four seasons toiling near the bottom of the Premier Division.

Including his earlier spell he made 61 appearances for the Pars, scoring 7 goals, one of which was in the UEFA Cup against FK Hacken. Rather less memorable was his unbelievably stupid sending off in the return match in the Ullevi Stadium, Gothenburg.

In January 2008 he moved to St Mirren and subsequently Partick Thistle, Livingston and Third Division, Arbroath where he played eight times without scoring in season 2010/11 and later that season at East Fife.
