Scottish Cup Winner 1961, Manager February 1972 to September 1975

Born: Larkhall, 20th May 1939
Signed: as a Player: May 1959
Signed: as a Manager 25th February 1972

Signed by manager Andy Dickson a few days before his twentieth birthday, George Miller made rapid progress and after only a handful of reserve matches was promoted to the first team on 26th August 1959 for a League Cup tie against St Mirren.

Firmly established in the side by the time Jock Stein took over, George was one of only four players to appear in all eight of the club`s 1960-1961 Scottish Cup ties.

Another of that era who was comfortable in either midfield or defence, George followed Willie Cunningham as one of the first Scottish players to operate as a `sweeper`. He revelled in European football and scored the most memorable of his 24 goals against Everton in the Inter Cities Fairs Cup, hammering home a low 20 yard shot to set the Pars up for a famous victory.

Appointed captain, he earned a Scottish League cap in September 1964 but a month later he was transferred to Wolves for a fee of £28,500.

After Wolves George played with Hearts and Falkirk. He was Hearts captain in the 1968 Scottish Cup final when Dunfermline won 3-1.

George returned to East End Park as manager on 25th February 1972 but the club was relegated despite a valiant effort. Forced to rely on a crop of talented teenagers, he led the Pars to promotion in 1972-1973 as the highest scoring side in Britain. Unfortunately, the team never realised its full potential and a disastrous loss of form in the latter half of 1974-1975 saw Dunfermline miss out on a place in the inaugural Premier Division. With the club unable to offer George a suitable deal, he resigned on 2nd September 1975.
