Teams | Rab Shannon
Signed by Dunfermline in November 1991, Dundee receiving £125,000 plus Ian McCall and Eddie Gallagher.
A Scottish under 18 youth internationalist, Rab Shannon made his senior debut for Doing Nader in March 1985 and went on to make more than 250 appearances for the Dee over the next six years. He was also capped seven times at under 21 level.
After falling into dispute with Dundee Rab went on loan to Middlesbrough before being signed by Dunfermline in November 1991, Dundee receiving £125,000 plus Ian McCall and Eddie Gallagher.
Reliable rather than spectacular Rab made 75 appearances for Dunfermline, proving much more effective at full back than in midfield.
Sold to Motherwell for £85,000 in the summer of 1993, his two seasons at Fir Park were followed by a spell at Dundee United where one of his 47 matches was in the Challenge Cup Final defeat to Stenhousemuir.
Rab lost his place in the United team towards the end of their promotion winning 1995/96 season and was transferred to Hibs in November 1996 for a reported fee of £100,000. He made only a handful of appearances either side of a season in Australia and then joined former Motherwell team mate Stevie Kirk at East Fife in November 1999. After indifferent performances and supporter unrest he left 18 months later.
