Born: Currie, 2nd November 1962
Signed: 1st spell: 9th September 1988, 2nd spell: 4th January 1993
Paul was an apprentice with both Dundee and Dundee United, but it wasn`t until he signed for Raith Rovers in 1983 that he played first team football. At Stark`s Park he scored 58 goals in 141 appearances before signing for Motherwell in 1986. A £50,000 transfer saw him move to Dunfermline in September 1988.
A popular hard working player `Smudger` became an influential figure in the team which clinched the First Division title, and survived in the Premier Division in 1991-1992. Paul moved to Brockville as part of an exchange deal for Derek McWilliams.
His spell at Falkirk was not particularly happy and Jocky Scott brought Paul back to Dunfermline in January 1993. In November 1995 he signed for Hearts in a swap for Colin Miller, at the tender age of 33.
In his two spells at Dunfermline for the Pars, Paul made a total of 241 appearances, scoring 30 goals. He spent a season with Ayr United before joining Berwick Rangers, quickly becoming their player/ manager. Subsequently became assistant to John McGlynn at Raith Rovers.
