Dunfermline Athletic

Club History | Fifth Hall of Fame - October 2008

Club honours Sixties legends Willie Callaghan, Bert Paton and Jim Thomson. Seventies favourites Jim Bowie and Hugh Whyte and Centenary Club Chairman Pete Campbell for services to the club.

The fifth Dunfermline Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner was held at Keavil House Hotel. This was the first time that the event has been staged at this impressive venue, but the hosts provided us with a night to remember.

Every Hall of Fame event is a bit special, but the fifth was a little bit more so because the club formally recognising the part that an entire team have played in raising the stature of the name and reputation of Dunfermline Athletic Football Club.

The Hall of Fame is about showing appreciation for the contribution that individuals have made, but when you reach the fortieth anniversary of a famous victory, we felt we could not let it go unnoticed. It`s an amazing thing you know - this club has reached seven major national finals at Hampden Park, but our last victory in one of these was in April 1968.

There were already 31 members of the Hall of Fame.
Six more were added at this Fifth Hall of Fame:-.
Sixties legends Wilie Callaghan, Bert Paton and Jim Thomson. Seventies favourites Jim Bowie and Hugh Whyte and Centenary Club Chairman Pete Campbell for services to the club.

The evening was polished off with the magnificent sound of Tommy Samson`s Big Band.

Once again Dunfermline Building Society was the major partner in bringing together this event.

The Society has had a proud involvement in promoting sport in Scotland over many years and in many different sports. However, for us it has been the way that they have worked with us to sustain this event that has given us great satisfaction, and we record our special thanks to them for their continuing support.
