News & Events | Newlands Care Home Visit
On 28 January 2016, the Memory Box was taken to visit the residents at Newlands Care Home in Dunfermline. Heritage Trustee Kenny Mclachlan reports.
On 28 January, the project team had the pleasure of taking the Memory Box to visit the residents at Newlands Care Home in Dunfermline. Care worker at Newlands (and Pars fan) Fiona Buchanan had seen details of the previous visits to Henderson House, and contacted the project team to request a visit to Newlands.
The Memory Box was accompanied by former Pars goalkeeper Ian Westwater (now of FES Ltd) along with Kenny Mclachlan (Co-operative Funeralcare and Dunfermline Athletic Heritage Trust) and Sarah Yorke (Co-operative Funeralcare, and former PA to Pars manager Jimmy Calderwood).
The residents present for the afternoon session were John, Archie, Eck, Alex, Ann and Sheila.
It was particularly pleasing to have some of the residents` families present, who helped rekindle their family members` memories. "For a few moments I had my Archie back" was a particularly poignant comment from Archie`s wife, who makes time to visit him six days out of every week.
Former referee John had his daughter and better half present, who contributed by showing John items from the Memory Box, which clearly brought back pleasant memories.
Sharing stories and rekindling memories of yesteryear is a very special privilege, and one which all the Memory Box project team team find rewarding. We wish to thank the staff and residents of Newlands for their assistance.
The project team plan to visit other care homes with the Memory Box, to engage with the residents, their families and friends. For more information, call 01383 745901 or email sales@theparsfoundation.org
