Sean re-joined Dunfermline on 17th July 2015 and in the League One winning season achieved 17 shut outs in 43 matches.

He had first joined joined Dunfermline Athletic full time in the summer of 2003. Sean, Edinburgh born and bred, joined our Youth Initiative programme from Hearts Youths playing for a year and a half at Under 15 and 16 levels.

He had an excellent season in 2002-03 playing regularly for the Under 19s and 21s and was even called up to the first team squad - featuring on the bench versus Celtic. He was recognised at International level too, playing for Scottish Schoolboys.

With the arrival of keepers Allan McGregor and Bryn Halliwell, Sean was loaned out for the 2005-06 season to Forfar Athletic. He won his way into the team and made 13 starts, achieving four shut outs. Signed a new contract with the Pars in July 2006 before returning to Forfar on loan for the first half of season 2006-07.

Returned from Forfar having played another 18 games for them and went out on loan to Hamilton Academical in February 2007 where he played 11 matches for them in the Scottish First Division.

Murdoch made his first team debut for Dunfermline in the UEFA cup tie against Swedish club, BK Hacken. He was then to become second choice behind Paul Gallacher for most of the 2007–08 season and left to join Hamilton for a nominal fee of £15,000 for season 2008-09 and then in 2011 signed for League Two side, Accrington Stanley.

Sean returned to Scotland in October 2012 as back up for Ben Williams at Hibs and had a spell in the USL with Rochester Rhinos.

Won just about every Player of the Year award for season 2016-2017 making 36 starts and achieving 10 shut outs. Made his 100th appearance for Dunfermline in the 3-0 win over St Mirren on 16th September 2017, a win that took his shut out tally to 35.

Made his final appearance in the home win over Brechin City on 23rd December 2017. He was forced to retire after missing the entire 2018-2019 season through persistent injury.

Quit playing to become a referee.
