Signed by Dunfermline from Edinburgh juveniles, Merchiston Thistle in 1952 for £10 plus a £30 signing on fee, apprentice plumber Jimmy Millar made a scoring debut at inside-forward in a 2-1 win over Hamilton on 31st January 1953.

Jimmy was 18 year old inside forward when he made his debut but appeared more regularly at half back the following season.

Without a recognised centre-forward for 1954/55, manager Bobby Ancell gambled on Jimmy, a skilful, wholehearted player who was strong in the air despite being only 5` 6`` tall.

As the Pars pushed for promotion, Jimmy`s 17 goals in 19 league matches brought him to the attention of other clubs and in January 1955 he was transferred to Rangers for a fee of £5,500, enough to wipe out Dunfermline`s entire debt.

His Ibrox career developed in a similar way - it wasn`t until 1959 that he was given the opportunity to lead the line and he grabbed it with both hands, netting 162 goals in 317 games on the way to winning three league titles, five Scottish Cups and three League Cups.

In 1967 he moved on to Dundee United where he played 22 times and scoring three goals before taking up the post as manager of Raith Rovers in early 1969. He resigned in September 1970 to concentrate on his pub, the Duke`s Head at the foot of Easter Road, which was rather ironic since Jimmy had grown up a Hearts fan idolising centre forward Willie Bauld.

He won two Scotland caps and became a Rangers legend, scoring a remarkable 162 goals in 317 Rangers appearances.
