Tom McMillan was a top-quality defender whose talent was squandered by Dunfermline`s indecision and inability to settle on its best eleven. At the mercy of the whims of the directors, who rejected an offer of £1,500 from an unnamed English club, Tom was subsequently transferred to Armadale.
Disillusioned, he left in 1924 to play in America, where former Scottish international Jock Marshall declared him the finest full-back he`d ever seen.
