28 year-old Bob McGowan had been something of a journeyman centre forward before joining Dunfermline but he was to make a real impact at East End Park.
After scoring on his debut, he went on to net a total of sixteen goals in nineteen matches to help stave off the threat of relegation that had earlier seemed inevitable.
Bob was lively, hard-working and a good header of the ball. Moreover, he had the happy knack of hitting the back of the net, becoming the first Pars player to score fifty goals in the old First Division. To this day, only four others have recorded twenty goals or more in a single top-flight season while Bob is still the club`s 17th highest all-time scorer.
