At a time when Celtic were at a low ebb, John `Jackie` Gallacher was a striking hero, with a tremendous scoring record during the late war years. Son of Scotland great Hugh Gallacher, he joined Dunfermline in January 1950 as a replacement for Pars striker George Henderson.
Hampered by a recurring injury, after just three games and two goals, he asked to be released from his contract and returned briefly to Celtic before signing for Falkirk the following season.
