Born in Crieff, Bobby signed for Dunfermline just before his 28th birthday in an exchange that took Jim Leishman to Cowdenbeath. He made his Pars debut against Meadowbank on 22 January 1977 and was the club`s top marksman in 1977/78.
The arrival of Mike Leonard effectively cost Bobby his place and he was released at the end of 1978/79 season, going on to play for several Fife junior clubs.
