After a twenty year spell as goalkeeper with Dundee United and a brief loan spell at Montrose, Hamish made a single appearance for the Pars on 9th April 1986 away to Meadowbank Thistle. The 0-4 result was Dunfermline`s heaviest defeat of the season.
In season 1985/86 Ian Westwater was an ever present for the Pars, except for one game. Westy was unavailable for the match, away to Meadowbank Thistle, on Tuesday 8th April 1986 and, with Hugh Whyte also unavailable, Athletic turned to the Tannadice legend.
It was a last minute thing and he hadn`t even had a proper training session with his defence. This showed in a disastrous Pars performance which ended in a 4-0 defeat. Westy was back for the next game, a 4-0 home win against Albion Rovers.
