Signed for Dunfermline from Penicuik Athletic by Pat Stanton on 20 November 1980 Bobby Forrest joined Dunfermline from Penicuik Athletic and was initially used as a left winger. He was successfully converted to the left back position and became a central part of the rise of the Pars under Jim Leishman through the leagues and into the Premier League in 1987.

Bobby made 221 appearances for the club and made the transition from Second Division to Premier League. Bobby left the club for Arbroath when the club went full time in the top flight, before also playing for Meadowbank (including against Dunfermline in their championship winning match).
