Eddie had played inside forward for Tynecastle Athletic and was a Scottish schoolboy cap when he left school in 1965 to join the ground staff at East End Park.
Eddie struggled to get into the team but on 9th April 1969 he was on the bench for the Cup-Winners` Cup semi-final against Slovan Bratislava. Eddie replaced Renton in the 63rd minute and came close to scoring a decisive second goal. Freed at the end of the season and after spells with Dumbarton, Rotherham and Grimsby, he spent eight years with South African side Cape Town City.
