Jackie arrived at Dunfermline in 1991 when Iain Munro was manager. When Bert Paton arrived, Jackie became a regular. He slotted in perfectly at right back and his intelligent use of the ball, rarely giving a bad pass, was to become his hallmark in years to follow. His talent was recognised at international level and he won eight Scotland Under 21 caps with Dunfermline, which still remains a club record today. Still only 21, Jackie was transferred to Celtic for club record £650,000 on 4th October 1995. He went on to provide ten years of service to Celtic where he became captain, a regular in the Scotland side, and SPFA Player of the Year in 2005.
