Spotted by Hamilton while playing at boys club level. Hamilton Accies we able to sell the winger to Southampton for £75,000 in 1993.
Paul was signed in January 1998 from Brighton and Hove Albion. He featured in the Scottish Cup tie v Edinburgh City on 24 January 1998.
When Paul retired from playing and he became the SFA community coach at Kilmarnock. McDonald was placed in temporary charge of the Kilmarnock first team in October 2017, after the departure of Lee McCulloch.
