Derek Young joined Dunfermline Athletic from Aberdeen in 2003 along with his brother Darren.
He played for three seasons as an attacking midfielder, which included the Scottish Cup final of 2004 and the Scottish League Cup final of 2006. Although not a prolific goalscorer, he scored a hat-trick against Dundee in Jim Leishman`s first game back as manager in 2005, and then another against Kilmarnock in Pars 2006 League Cup run. He moved to St Johnstone in 2006.
