Began his career at Aberdeen but after making just one League Cup appearance for the Dons` first team, 20 year old Craig was signed by Bert Paton in February 1996 for a fee of £75,000. Competing with the likes of Andy Tod, Dave Barnett and Steve Welsh for a place in the centre of defence, Craig found it hard to command a regular slot.

By the start of season 1999-2000, Craig was relegated to the bench and undoubtedly unhappy at that prospect, Craig opted to go on loan to Dundee in October 1999, a move that was confirmed by a £50,000 transfer to Dens Park.

That move turned out to be less than successful and Craig joined Airdrieonians and then Notts County on loan, with a permanent move to the latter confirmed in 2001. Craig also enjoyed spells at Barnsley, Peterborough and Bristol City in England before finishing his career back in Scotland with Falkirk.
