Wullie Gibson made his Queen of the South debut as a sixteen year old and went on to play 109 times for his hometown team, scoring just once, before Jim Jefferies signed him for Kilmarnock in January 2007. Despite his ability his career appeared to have stalled at a Rugby Park and he was picked up by Dunfermline in July 2009.

At East End Park he quickly showed the promise of his early career despite having a fiery temperament which resulted in 15 yellow cards and 2 red cards in his 59 Appearances.

Under Jim McIntrye he produced some stunning performances leading to a substantial offer from Crawley Town in August 2010. Wullie initially rejected the move for personal reasons but Crawley renewed their interest and he finally agreed to a deal on 31st January 2011. Dunfermline received around £150,000 for the player who had scored 17 goals in 61 appearances.

Home sickness brought him home after a few months to sign for St Johnstone but he started only one a SPL match there before joining Falkirk.

A bust up with manager Steven Presley then led to Willie re-joining Queen of the South, where he played 23 times, scoring once, as the club won the Division Two title. By that stage Wullie had left to join Celtic Nation. Workington, Stranraer (twice), Dumbarton and Peterhead followed before joining Stenhousemuir in 2019.

Gibson returned to Queen of the South for his third spell and became player / manager on Allan Johnston`s departure during season 2021-2022.
