The Strang twins, Sandy and Willie, were influential players in the club`s early days at East End Park, initially as members of the Athletic Juniors side that won the Fife Shield in two successive seasons. Willie, a hard-tackling left-back, joined Aberdeen-based Orion in 1899 but returned for two more seasons before earning a transfer to Celtic in 1903.
The following year an alleged assault on a referee at a tournament in Cowdenbeath led to the twins being banned for life by the SFA. When Willie moved north, Sandy successfully moved up to senior level, being appointed captain in 1901. A robust, hard-working half-back, he was very popular with the supporters, who were shocked by the severity of the punishment the twins received.
In 1905 the family emigrated to Canada where the twins led the Calgary Caledonians to the People`s Shield three years in succession. During the First World War, Sandy was wounded in both legs while Willie, sadly, was killed.
