At the age of 36, in June 2020 Steven Whittaker joined Dunfermline on a one year deal as a player/coach.

Steven had 31 Scottish caps to his name and returned to Hibs from Norwich City for a second spell at Easter Road.

Edinburgh born Steven a product of Hutchison Vale Boys Club joined Hibs in 2000 and then again in 2017.

Whittaker was an attack-minded right back who could play in both defensive and midfield positions. During his first spell at Hibs made 174 appearances in all competitions, he won the CIS League Cup in 2007 before Rangers paid £2m for him in August that year sealing a big money move to Ibrox and subsequently playing in the English Premiership for Norwich City.

During his five years in Glasgow, Steven played 209 times, scoring 28 goals. He won three SPL titles, three League Cups and two Scottish Cups, and also helped Rangers to the final of the UEFA Cup in Manchester, beating Panathinaikos, Werder Bremen, Sporting Lisbon and Fiorentina en route. He played in midfield for Walter Smith`s side in the final, but Dick Advocat`s Zenit St Petersburg proved too strong in a 2-0 victory.

Steven signed a four year deal for English Premier League club Norwich City on 30th June 2012. Norwich were relegated in season 2013/14, but Whittaker played regularly during the 2014/15 as Norwich City secured an instant return to the Premier League with a 2-0 victory over Middlesbrough in the Championship play-off final at Wembley.

In July 2017, Whittaker re-joined Hibernian on a three-year deal making a further 69 appearances for the capital side before being released in 2020.

Made his Dunfermline debut against Dumbarton on 6 October 2020 going on to make 24 Dunfermline appearances including three as a sub. He played in a defensive midfield role and did not find the net for the Pars.

Steven retired from playing in May 2021 and became a First Team Coach under Peter Grant.

Steven was joint caretaker manager with Greg Shields for two matches in November 2021 after Peter Grant left and before John Hughes came in. In May 2022 at the age of 37 he made the move to be Scott Brown`s number two at Fleetwood Town.
