John made his debut at the age of 18 when Neil Lennon started him in the Premier Sports Cup tie v Hearts at Tynecastle on 12th July 2025.

Signed on a two year Apprentice contract in July 2024. John`s dad, Andy, ran a team for him and his older brother Andrew at Kinross Colts. Although a 2007 John played in a year above so that he and his brother could play together at 2006 level.

At the age of 10 John followed his brother to play at Fife Elite, ultimately Dunfermline. When Sam Young went out on loan Greg Shields drafted him into the under 18s. Initially John was too young to play reserve football but last season was a near ever present. Having began his football as an attacker, John became a midfielder and now describes himself as centre back who likes dribbling out from the back.

John spent 2024-2025 season on loan to St Andrews United where he lifted every Player of the Year award going. A member of the Dunfermline Reserve teams that won both the 2024 and 2025 Reserve Cup.
