James was born on 28th March 1991, in Preston. From the age of 8, he was involved in the boys and youth systems at Preston North End, until 2009, when he moved up to Scotland to study at Edinburgh University. James became part of the Edinburgh University team while a student there.

The university football team, playing in the East of Scotland League and the Lowland League was a good showcase for his talents. In the summer of
2012 he made the leap from junior football to Scotland`s second tier, joining Scottish First Division club Partick Thistle where, against Greenock Morton, he scored the decisive goal that sealed Thistle`s promotion to the Scottish Premiership. In a three year spell at Thistle James played in over 100 games, including a short loan spell with Forfar Athletic.

Season 2015/16 found James with Raith Rovers where he was a regular choice. The following season he was on the move again, this time to Falkirk where, again, he was a first teamer until January 2018, when he was recruited to East End Park.

Became a utility player at East End Park when asked to fill in in various roles. James was a first choice with The Pars, playing a total of 59 times, until the summer of 2019, when he returned to the north west of England to sign for AFC Fylde. The lure of Scotland called again and, before the season was up, he went on loan to Arbroath. He signed for real in the summer of 2020 and was a vital part of Dick Campbell`s team as they so nearly gained promotion to the SPL.

James began season 2022/23 with Edinburgh City but despite being a regular choice, the financial difficulties at the club led to a move to The Spartans as they embarked on their League career.

Dunfermline appearances: 59 appearances including 4 as sub, scored 2 goals.
