Along with his twin brother Dick, he joined the Pars in 1973 having been a junior at Lochore Welfare. Featured regularly as a forward, he had two spells, the first ending in 1975 when he moved to Arbroath.
In 1985, after a long and productive spell at Brechin City, he re-joined the Pars and he was a member of the 1985-86 Division Two championship winning side. After a brief loan spell at Montrose in 1987, he left to pursue his coaching career.
Retired the following season and has since coached alongside twin brother Dick and is now Managing Director of Avenue Recruitment based in the town.
Ian and twin brother Dick have had an on and off association with Dunfermline Athletic for more than thirty years.
Ian Campbell played in the same Townhill Under 16 side as Jim Leishman before playing junior football for three years with Lochore. It was there that his striking ability first came to be recognized.
He made his Pars debut aged 19 in George Miller`s young team that had won promotion back to the First Division in 1973 but by 1975 the Pars were relegated and Ian moved first to Arbroath then Cowdenbeath before finally settling at Brechin. He enjoyed a hugely successful career at Brechin where he went on to become the highest goalscorer in the club`s history.
Jim Leishman brought Ian back to Dunfermline where his goalscoring exploits continued. In season 1985-86 he weighed in with 18 goals including a Skol Cup hat-trick against Stenhousemuir. After a less successful season in the First Division, he retired to pursue his business career.
