Joined from Aberdeen in July 2003, along with his brother Derek. He played as a midfielder for five seasons at East End Park, which included two Scottish Cup Finals.

Darren had signed for Aberdeen on last day of February 1996 and made his senior debut at the age of 17 - 25th August 1996 - Aberdeen v Hearts. Under 21 caps rewarded his first team performances but a knee injury the following season sidelined him.

Captained the Dons in season 2001-2002 when they finished 4th in the SPL.

Season 2006-07 saw Darren for the first time, not having brother Derek at the same club. Injury restricted his appearances in the latter half of season 2006-07.

Left Dunfermline Season 2007-2008 and signed for Dundee.
