In September 2025 Dunfermline Athletic were delighted to announce the signing of striker Barney Stewart on-loan from Falkirk.

The 21-year-old striker Barney Stewart joined the Pars as manager Neil Lennon augmented his attacking options in the absence through injury of Zak Rudden.

Stewart brought both academic excellence and footballing prowess to KDM Group East End Park. The 6`2″ striker is currently in his fourth year studying BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science at Heriot-Watt University, where he has been part of the university`s prestigious Football Scholarship Programme.

The Englishman made headlines in October 2024 when he became the first Heriot-Watt University Football Scholar to sign a full-time professional contract, putting pen to paper with Falkirk. This achievement stands as a testament to the success of the university`s Football Scholarship Programme and Stewart`s exceptional development.

The West London native has already tasted success at senior level, netting two goals in 17 appearances for Falkirk between January and May 2025. Prior to his professional breakthrough, Stewart was prolific for Heriot-Watt University FC, scoring an impressive 14 goals in 25 games in the East of Scotland League First Division during the 2023-2024 season.

Football wasn`t Stewart`s only sporting passion growing up. The talented athlete was formerly ranked No.1 in Middlesex for tennis and competed in national tournaments. He has also represented London at Gaelic Football, displaying his versatility across multiple sports.

Despite coming from an academically gifted family – with older brother Logan studying maths and computer science at Oxford and younger brother Toby reading law at Cambridge – Barney jokes that while his siblings “took all the smart genetics,” he “inherited the physical ones.” His sporting achievements suggest he`s not complaining about that particular genetic lottery.

Stewart`s 2025 pre-season was disrupted by a fractured fifth metatarsal suffered in July, just days after featuring in Falkirk`s 4-2 friendly victory over East Fife. The striker has since returned to action, making his comeback in a Falkirk XI benefit match against Lowland League side Tranent.
