A product of Bowhill juvenile football whose father was a former Dunfermline player, Andy Herd was introduced to the senior game by Dundee, who released him after just one season.
Picked up by the Athletic, Andy turned out to be a strong and consistent left-half as well as a natural leader, captaining the team to the Second Division championship in 1925/26.
Signed by Hearts in 1927, he spent ten years at Tynecastle and was rewarded with a Scotland cap before moving on to East Fife, where he earned a Scottish Cup winners` medal.
