A gifted inside-forward, Alex Thomson spent twelve years with Celtic where his guile, vision and precise passing provided the legendary Jimmy McGrory with many of his goals. His talent was undoubtedly deserving of more than the three Scotland caps he was awarded.

Needing experience if the club was to prosper in the First Division, the Pars signed Alex in 1934 and his impressive work rate, twisting runs and ability to carve open a defence with inch-perfect passing helped Dunfermline achieve its highest ever league position in two successive seasons.

However, age and injury took its toll and he was badly missed in 1936/37 as the club slumped to relegation, followed by Alex`s immediate retirement from the game.
