Much sought after following impressive Scottish Cup Semi Final and Final appearances against Celtic and Dundee United, joined Dunfermline from Ross County for season 2010-11. Alex was a strong and confident left sided defender.
An FA Youth Cup winner whilst in the Leeds United youth set-up. Alex suffered a broken leg and disillusioned with the senior game, he decided to further his education while playing junior football with Cumbernauld United and Shotts Bon Accord.
Alex also gained an Honours Degree in Chartered Surveying from Glasgow Caledonian University before embarking on his professional football career.
At the age of 24 in 2005 Alex returned to senior football with Stranraer and was a regular in a season that ended in relegation from the First Division. Signed by Ross County in 2006, he played in two Challenge Cup finals, beating Clyde on 2006/07 and losing to Airdrie two years later, both on penalties. In between he helped the club lift the Second Division title, the season in which he switched to centre half.
After four years with the Staggies he joined Dunfermline in 2010 and went on to make 72 appearances, earning a First Division championship medal in his first season at East End Park. However the SPL proved a much tougher proposition and relegation led to his release in 2012.
Alex left Dunfermline to play at Arbroath, scoring three times in 76 matches. His time there ended with the club dropping into League Two, giving Alex the unwanted distinction of suffering relegation with all four of his senior clubs.
