A goalkeeper captured from Dutch Eredivisie side ADO Den Haag in 2006.

Born in Amsterdam in 1980, Dorus started at SC Telstar in the Dutch second tier, then moved to ADO Den Haag in the Eredivisie, where he eventually claimed the No.1 shirt. When Jaroslav Drobný arrived on loan, Dorus was told he would not be offered a new deal. That was when he made the switch to Scottish Premier League with Dunfermline.

He stayed a single season and his final game for the club came in the 2007 Scottish Cup Final against Celtic. Dunfermline lost 1–0 to a late goal.

At the end of his contract Roberto Martínez signed him for Swansea City. There he played under Paulo Sousa and then came Brendan Rodgers. The 2010–11 season was a great success, he played every minute, including the play-off final against Reading, where Swansea sealed a 4–2 win and a historic promotion to the Premier League.

That match was his 203rd and final appearance for the club. De Vries turned down a new contract and signed for Wolves. In July 2013, Dorus signed for Nottingham Forest and in 2016, he reunited with Brendan Rodgers at Celtic.

He joined Celtic carrying that injury and Craig Gordon reclaimed the number one shirt and De Vries made just 15 appearances across three seasons.
