Manager Willie Knight secured Joe Sutton`s signature immediately after a Scottish Junior Cup tie in which he scored four of Parkhead`s seven goals.
Joe made his debut on 3 November 1923 in a 1-0 defeat at St. Johnstone. Although he never became a prolific goalscorer with Dunfermline, `Baffy` was an integral part of the side that won the Second Division title in 1925/26.
Slightly built but very skilful, he was adept at opening out the play. Like Jimmy Dickson, with whom he had a very good understanding, he didn`t seem to take things particularly seriously and was well known for playing with a smile on his face even when on the receiving end of some heavy tackling.
