An experienced goalkeeper who helped Leith Athletic lift the Second Division title in 1930, Peter Steel made 79 consecutive appearances after joining Dunfermline, with whom he won promotion again in 1933/34.
Steady and effective without any inclination to showmanship, Peter was renowned for the tremendous length of his clearances. Following spells of illness and injury, he retired at the end of 1935/36 but returned to assist Leith the following season after their regular goalkeeper was signed by the Pars.
