Samuel started his career with Aberdeen but after three seasons and only five first team appearances, Bobby Ancell brought him to Dunfermline in 1953.
A wing half or full back, he was a regular in Dunfermline`s line up for the next four years, making 123 appearances. He missed just one league match as the Pars won promotion in 1954/55 and he maintained his position while Dunfermline fought to remain in the top division.
Moved to Stenhousemuir in 1958.
