One time wonderkid with St Mirren. Had a five year stint with the Buddies before Aberdeen signed him in 1963. Two successful years at Pittodrie led to Hearts gaining his signature in 1965. By 1967 he was appearing less regularly and with Jim Fleming in a similar situation at Dunfermline, the two were swapped and finished season 1966/67 at their new clubs.

The following season Don did not establish himself as a regular and departed for Fulham before the season was out. In total he played just over 20 times and scored once. Finished his career in Ireland with Portadown.
