Paul was signed by Harry Melrose in July 1977 from Dalkeith Thistle, but immediately made an impact and secured a regular place in the side. A hard working but also creative midfielder, Paul went on to make nearly 200 appearances for the Pars before transferring to Partick Thistle after the first game at the start of season 1984/85.
Ironically, he missed all the good days at East End Park, but kept in touch later after he emigrated to play for Perth Azzurri in Western Australia. The cash the club received for his transfer gave Jim Leishman some much-needed funds for future developments.
