A talented and speedy defender, and a Moroccan international, Rossi was signed from NEC Nijmegen for £160k in August 2000 and eventually made his debut in November. During his 25 appearances for the club he was booked 12 times and sent off twice.

He had his wages stopped in August 2001 after another prolonged absence following an international appearance. He eventually had a world wide ban placed on him by FIFA and left the club in 2003.

When Rossi first arrived on Halbeath Road from French Division 1 club Rennes for a fee in the region of £160,000-200,000 in July 2000, he was lauded, and rightly so, even though this was a player still recovering from a cruciate injury that had sidelined him while on loan with Dutch outfit NEC Nijmegen.

A player who featured in all group games at the World Cup two years previous for a nation that finished above the Scots in Group A after thumping Craig Brown`s boys 3-0.

However, Rossi came with a plane full of baggage from the continent, having cut off contact with Nijmegen and returning to Morocco after suffering his injury. And when he returned to the pitch, he unpacked his luggage on a poor teenager in an under-21 game against St Johnstone, earning a red card 25 minutes in, the first of many.

His first team debut was a professional performance against Rangers, keeping Kenny Miller quiet and earning the draw in a nil-nil with the Scottish champions. The following week at Tannadice, there was the other side of Rossi, the side that Pars fans saw all too often.

Up in Dundee, Rossi received two cautions which saw him earn his marching orders then gesticulated to the jeering United supporters, which got him another red card. “He might become a marked man, but he is not helping himself,” said Calderwood.

Rossi would score versus Aberdeen on Boxing Day, his only goal for the club, but that would be the last incident of note that season – even though he would still pick up the occasional caution, it seemed he eradicated the circus act that followed him around.

Following late returns from Morocco and basically going AWOL the 2003 FIFA ban came into force until he either, he returned to the club or was transferred elsewhere after refusing to honour his contract.

Rossi played 25 times for the Pars, with 24 starts. He only scored once but was cautioned on 12 occasions and sent off thrice.
