Lewis McCann praises fighting spirit as Pars claw it back from two down

The Falkirk Stadium was a new experience for Dunfermline striker Lewis McCann and he was happy to play his part in making it 19 league matches undefeated and eight points out of a possible 12 against their closest challengers.

After picking up a serious hamstring injury away to Clyde in October, Lewis missed six league games until his return on Christmas Eve at Kelty. Nevertheless with 12 league starts and 12 appearances off the bench Lewis has been of great value to the team and none more so than on Saturday at Falkirk. He agreed that it was nice to get a goal and an assist but he was just happy that Dunfermline got a decent result.

`Coming away here is never easy, they are a good team and that`s why they are second in the league. They were always going to be tough to play against, we saw that in the other three games that we have played. They don`t make it easy for us, they are a good team. It was a bit of a graft.

`I`d say that it was a positive performance but the first thirty minutes we didn`t come out of the blocks as hot as we maybe would have wanted. We did well to come back and get even at half time. In general we were quite happy with that.`

The goals

Lewis provided the final ball to Craig Wighton that allowed him to squeeze in between Brad McKay and Coll Donaldson and net the Fifers first. It was a great team goal since every outfield player touched the ball in its making from kick off to goal within thirty seconds. Then just nine minutes later Lewis smashed in the equaliser although he was surprised that his shot found the net:-

`I just shot and turned around. I was about to be annoyed with myself and turned back and it was in the back of the net. I took a touch inside and I think I wrong footed him a wee bit. It wasn`t my best strike but it went into the back of the net.` Lewis added his appreciation for his team mate`s determination to brush off his marker in the lead up to his chance. `Matty Todd is really good at running about, running at people. You have seen it all season, he is really good at keeping the ball and he just never gives up.`

Never give up

`If we go behind we don`t feel it is over and done. This is the group that we have, it has been like that the whole season. We have gone behind a couple of times and we just don`t give up. You saw that at Airdrie before, it is always positive no matter what happens.

`Especially this season, we don`t give up and you can see that in the results. Even when it has been stalemate 0-0s we have always believed that we are going to get a goal, a winner or an equaliser. It is just the group that we have.`

The Dunfermline fans have also made a significant impact on the players desire to succeed, Lewis continued:- `They are always good when they come here - loud. You see it at home as well they are brilliant, they are just as good away.`

Objectives

The 2-2 scoreline takes Dunfermline`s unbeaten league run to 19:-

`We didn`t even know that we were going for the record until the gaffer mentioned it a couple of games ago. Then again it is not an objective that we are going for, we are just happy to do it.`

One point takes Lewis and his team mates closer to the League One title but like ignoring records and a potential title, he echoed what has become the party theme tune:-

`We are just still taking it game by game. We are going to Peterhead on Tuesday and hopefully we can pick up the three points there and then think about Saturday.`
