A graduate of Fife Elite Academy, Paul made his Dunfermline debut in the Challenge Cup tie against Inverness Caledonian Thistle on 14 August 2018.
Paul Allan spent the month of April 2017 training with Benfica in Portugal and they rated him as a number six. He signed a two year deal at Dunfermline Athletic in May 2017. When subsequent contract expired in May 2023 Paul was released.
Paul rated Stephen Wright as his biggest influence through the Dunfermline youth system and Fife Elite. Paul progressed from the age of 9 when Stephen was his coach, prior to that it was his uncle who was his coach at Inverkeithing Boys Club but was at Dunfermline Athletic from the age of ten years.
In the U20s Paul enjoyed learning from players like Lewis Martin, Callum Fordyce and John Potter.
Loaned out to Stenhousemuir in August 2017 but only made three substitute appearances and then to Hill of Beath in January 2018. In September 2019 Paul went out on loan to Brechin City and started in 20 of his 21 appearances for the Glebe Park side in 2019- 2020 season.
In October 2020 Paul went out on a season-long loan to Albion Rovers but was recalled in January 2021 after making seven starts for the League Two club.
Despite making 33 appearances in season 2023-2024 Paul was not rewarded with a new contract with budget constraints given as the reason. Paul subsequently signed for Inverness Caley Thistle.
